Patternmaking – Intro
Introduction to Patternmaking Series (Pattern 1&2) with instructor Sharon Blair, BA, MA, PAA
Wednesdays, January 25-April 25, 10 am-1 pm or 6-9 pm
After these classes, you will be ready to design clothes — for yourself or others. You will have patterns that fit and you’ll be able to turn it into innumerable designs for skirts, shirts and blouses, dresses and pants.
Take the whole 14-week series for $619 or $359 for the 8 weeks of Pattern 1 and $269 for the 6 weeks of Pattern 2. Series includes pattern papers and textbook “Building Patterns” by Suzy Furrer and special handouts from Sharon’s Paris experiences.
Patternmaking 1, Wednesdays, January 25-March 14, 10 am-1 pm OR 6-9 pm. (Sorry, the level 1 classes are full. Please contact info@portlandsewing.com to get on the wait list.)
Draft slopers made to your measurements. Start with a torso sloper that you can use for dresses, jackets and coats. Create a bodice sloper for blouses and shirts. Go to sleeves. Then create a skirt sloper. Finish with pants. Prerequisite: Beginning sewing or equivalent, experience with commercial patterns.
Patternmaking 2. Wednesdays, March 21-April 25, 10 a.m.-1 pm OR 6-9 pm. Use your slopers to make patterns for garments made from woven fabric: Bodices, sleeves, skirts and pants. Learn how to manipulate darts into tucks, gather, flares and seams to make more creative designs. Draft necklines and collars. Prerequisite: Beginning sewing or equivalent, Pattern 1.
